Simply put, an acupuncture treatment balances your body's functions and helps you be the best you can be, both in the gym and in your life. Acupuncture can decrease stress, improve sleep, reset muscle performance, improve digestion and optimize your overall health. Sports/orthopedic acupuncture specifically is used to help speed healing, alleviate soreness and pain, reduce inflammation, relax your nervous system, improve your range of motion, and can increase your muscle strength and stamina. Through a combination of acupuncture, cupping, e-stim and various Eastern manual therapies, I can help not only your athletic performance, but improve your mental focus as well. Many patients initially come for pain relief and are pleasantly surprised with the other benefits.

Mel (Melissa) has been helping people balance their bodies naturally since 2008. Before relocating to Chattanooga, TN in early 2021, Mel spent over 13 years practicing in Florida, where she was a founding clinician in a private group acupuncture practice with specialties including pain management, sports injuries, athletic performance, pre/post-surgical orthopedic rehabilitation, mental health, OB/GYN, pediatrics and pre/postnatal care. There, as an Orthopedic specialist, she had the pleasure of working with athletes at all levels, from kids injured on the playground to the NFL, NCAA, CrossFit Games, Team USA, Team Canada, and many others. Since moving to Chattanooga, her specialty focus has included more Women’s health, with an emphasis on fertility and cancer treatment support.

“I love what I do,” Mel says. “My passion is helping to alleviate pain. Being analytical and puzzle driven, I love the diagnostic aspects of medicine. Pain can be all-encompassing, and I take great pride in being able to accurately diagnose and resolve that pain, and thus help give patients the freedom to make healthy changes in their own lives.” She’s a learning junkie. In addition to having a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, and multiple advanced certifications, she also holds a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and is completing a specialization program in Sports Medicine Acupuncture. She has published two academic book chapters on Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine use for Western physicians in the MD-focused journal Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology and has written on utilizing Orthopedic Acupuncture for athletes for the journal Medical Acupuncture. She has also taken adjunctive classes through Harvard Medical School.

When she’s not taking care of others, she takes care of herself by running, climbing, exploring the beautiful mountains, disappearing into the wilderness for days, and reading everything she can get her hands on. She also occasionally teaches Eastern and Western medicine, and sometimes dips back into her former career as an independent accounting consultant for local medical practices.
